CEO cites challenges of family life and business as reasons for relocating company offices out of California

Irvine, California – Lynsi Snyder, CEO and owner of the popular fast-food chain In-N-Out, has announced plans to relocate from California to Tennessee due to the state’s high cost of living and business challenges.

During an appearance on the “Relatable” podcast, Snyder discussed the realities of raising a family in California:

“There’s a lot of great things about California, but raising a family is not easy here.”
She also commented on the challenges of maintaining her family’s legacy in the state, adding:
“Doing business here is not easy.”

Snyder is currently overseeing the consolidation of In-N-Out’s California offices and the relocation of some operations to Tennessee. Founded in Baldwin Park, California, in 1948 by Snyder’s grandparents, Harry and Esther Snyder, In-N-Out remains a family-owned business.

In-N-Out operates 423 restaurants across Arizona, Nevada, Utah, Texas, Oregon, Colorado, Idaho, and California. Of these, 67% (281 locations) are in California. In 2024, the company reported revenues of $2.4 billion across all locations.

It remains unclear whether In-N-Out plans to open restaurants in Tennessee or expand further along the East Coast as a result of this move.
